Ibanez M80M Weathered Black 2014 Meshuggah Signature 8 String Electric Guitar

This is an Ibanez M80M 8-string electric guitar in Weathered Black finish. Made in Indonesia in 2014, this guitar is the signature model of Meshuggah guitarists Fredrik Thordendal & Mårten Hagström. Based on the RG series, this instrument of course features a bolt-on construction comprising an Ash body, 5pc Maple/Walnut neck with KTS Titanium reinforcement rods & 24 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Black hardware is fitted including an FX Edge III-8 double-locking hardtail bridge & a set of sealed tuning machines. A single passive ceramic Lundgren Model M8P pickup is installed in the bridge position and is wired to master volume & tone controls.

The 5pc Maple/Walnut neck plays very well, with the M80M profile feeling somewhat like a shallow ’D’ shape thanks to the lightly flattened area to the centre rear. This encourages ergonomic thumb positioning for easy reach across the register - essential for an 8 string with a nut width of 2.165”. The Rosewood of the fretboard feels smooth & durable under the fingers, and with its radius of 15.75” provides a smooth & responsive playing surface which is well equipped for both heavy low-down riffing & fast melodic lead lines. The rather flat radius works in conjunction with the jumbo frets to ensure that string bending & vibrato techniques are smooth & effortless.

The single Lundgren Model M8P passive ceramic humbucker installed in the bridge position delivers thick & crushing tones, perfect for the progressive metal/djent sounds Meshuggah are known for. The pickup can of course handle serious amounts of gain for a saturated heavy tone, with an accurate low end response that tracks even the heaviest of low-down riffing with ease. The controls are kept simple but still offer comprehensive tonal control for easy tweaking of your sound while playing. A serious tool for the contemporary heavy player.
