This is a Yamaha Silent SLG200N Silent Classical guitar in Natural Gloss finish. Yamaha’s line of silent guitars were introduced in 2001 as a way for guitarists to practise anytime, anywhere without disturbing anyone. The bass side ‘frame’ is quickly and easily removed, and fits easily into the supplied gig bag along with all of the accessories, making the silent guitar an extremely portable instrument. Built in China in 2017, this guitar features a set-neck construction comprising a Mahogany centre block with removable Rosewood and Maple sides, a Mahogany neck and a 19 fret Ebony fingerboard and matching bridge. Classical tuners are featured, along with an SRT Powered System with headphone output, tuner and on-board effects.
The Mahogany neck plays well, with the Satin finish to the rear assisting with smooth navigation of the fretboard. The nut width is traditional for a classical guitar at 2.048”, adding a touch of familiarity to this very modern instrument. The Ebony fingerboard provides a smooth and durable playing surface, making lead lines a breeze, and the space between the strings makes fingerstyle playing easier and more consistent. The super-lightweight body and ergonomic design make for a really comfortable instrument, ensuring that playing for extended periods of time is a comfortable experience.
Unplugged, the Yamaha SLG200NW produces a similar volume to a solid-body electric, meaning that it can be played in almost any situation without disturbing anyone around you. The on-board SRT Powered System preamp offers a really great range of features aimed at making practice possible in any setting. A 3.5mm auxiliary input means that you can connect an external player for backing tracks, with a volume control built-in so that you can easily mix your guitar and backing track levels. A 3.5mm headphone output is included too, meaning that most headphones can be connected with ease for silent practice. Two different on-board reverb sounds are included, allowing you to get as natural a tone as possible from this decidedly unconventional instrument. On top of all this, a traditional ¼” instrument cable output is included so that you can plug the guitar into a conventional guitar amp. A highly practical instrument designed to remove any excuse for not practising.
